Ski Greece
Greece has a surprisingly large number of ski areas – around 25 – given its southerly latitude, but mountains across the country often have good snow cover.
Those who seek to ski Greece will find that Seli is the country’s oldest resort with people skiing here since the early 1930s and the first lift erected in 1954. However the largest of the Greek ski areas is more modern Mount Parnassos which opened as recently as 1974 and offers wonderful views from the Gulf of Corinth to the Gulf of Euboea from its slopes. The combination of altitude and north-facing slopes normally ensures skiing well in to April.
Another of the country’s leading ski resorts is Kalávrita in the country’s Peloponnese region only a little over 200km from Athens.
There were also several small ski areas with lifts on Greek islands including Crete towards the end of the last century but these are reported to no longer operate lifts, although you may still find snow there.
