What's it like at Montgenèvre (Vialattea) resort?

Montgenevre is located at the top of a pass on the French-Italian border, at the end of the huge Milky-Way complex. Montgenevre itself (La Voie Lactée ski area) offers some good skiing based around two mountains. There are some open bowls at the top and tree skiing lower down. The lift pass may tempt you to explore the Milky Way. However, this can become tedious as you schuss between endless lifts. Montgenevre is not a good option for snowboards and it takes a long time to get to the heart of the complex by which time you have to head back. Better to opt for a day trip to the nearby resort of Serre Chevalier, this is also included in the cost of a 6 day pass. The Montgenevre resort itself is small but lively with a good mix of restaurants, bars and clubs. You can wander down into Italy, which takes 10 minutes, for a pizza (prices are also a bit less over the border).

Montgenevre is a little gem. Usually great snow, no crowds and plenty of variety We have skied every year and sometimes twice, since 2006. Linked access to the Via Latea is a bonus. Again, booked to go in January: all fingers crossed that France will let us in! We are fully jabbed and healthy!
