What's it like at Axamer Lizum resort?

This is a high alpine winter landscape with 10 cable cars and lifts and about 40 km of groomed slopes located only 19km away from Innsbruck (free ski bus). The Axamer Lizum is one of the most snow-sure winter sports areas in Austria because of its altitude and additional snow-making. There is a reason it is called the white roof of the Olympiaregion Innsbruck. There is something for everyone in the Axamer Lizum and if these top ski runs are not enough, there is the Golden Roofpark or the adrenaline rush from the extensive free-ride area. The lovely natural toboggan run from the Birgitzer Alm or from Lizum car park with free ski bus are some of the best in the Innsbruck area. The 300 hectares of open terrain and the many north-facing slopes get the heart rate going. You can get an overview of the amount of new snow, temperature on the mountain, open or closed ski routes and check the function of the avalanche beacon at the two free-ride checkpoints at the car park at 1580 metres and at the Hoadl Haus at 2340 metres

Update on my previous review of Axamer Lizum, as they have installed a new high capacity high speed gondola from the car park to the top, with the benefit of a mid station stop. This is in addition to the older funicular and effectively takes out all the old lifts at a stroke, save for the northernmost chair. What was already a great ski area now has world class uplift. Skied here several times last year and loved it. Everything else is just as it was, so still great value for money on the mountain.
