What's it like at Alagna resort?

Alagna is located on the east side of the huge ski area called Monterosa Ski, which connects the valleys surrounding the Monte Rosa massif (Antagnod, Brusson, Champoluc and Gressoney La Trinite). Alagna has huge on and off-piste descents that are what skiing here is all about, and if the lift area doesn't offer enough, Alagna has heli-skiing that can provide 3000m or more of vertical. It's at the quiet end of the Monterosa ski area. The long red down to the village has been reclassified as a black. It's definitely not a black run. Village is a good, cheap place to access the area, ideal for a long weekend. But apres-ski is limited. There is an excellent restaurant in the square, Dir Und Dan.

You got to this area for the off-piste. The upper black from the top is a good one. There is a freeride off-piste run which starts to the right of the start of the black, but finding it is a bit hit and miss. The chair to the right of the mid station is old, and has a rather unpleasant dismount if you're not ready for it. This bit of the Monterosa ski area really comes alive when there's been a recent dump.
